Whenever a significant prize-giving event draws close, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
